Week #84 - Iguanas en la Iglesia

Hola familia y amigos!

Well this week was pretty good, things have been going by really fast and it’s kind of hard to remember everything, but I’ll try hard to remember. Well so on Tuesday I went on divisions with another elder, Elder Villalobos, he has only a month in the mission. He is from Cali and has Mexican parents, and his comp, who is also a DL, went on divisions in another area to help fix problems that they have over there. I went with him and we had a really good day. He said that he enjoyed it because I gave him an opportunity to teach, something that his comp wasn’t doing very much.  We went to one house where the lady apparently had been feeling bad, but we showed up and taught her a bit about the Psalm of Nephi and she really enjoyed it.  It was just awesome to have the Spirit guiding us to places where we needed to be. It was fun to go there, however I think I got sick from something the cook gave us, but now I’m fine.

Came back to the area and we have a family that seem very interested in the church, and they want one of their daughters to get baptized, however the wife won’t go to church because she has problems with some members, and they don’t really want to get married, but we will work on that.  They have been reading the Book of Mormon and they like it a lot, so hopefully some progress can come from them. We are lacking people that are ready for baptism, and we don’t have many people teaching, but we are trying to get some activities lined up to help the branch here. Other families we have need to get married too, and some seem like they are having marital problems, but I hope that everyone will go to general conference this weekend. 

I am so excited! I love conference and I am excited to learn more from what the prophet and the 12 have to say for us. This week I ate iguana and supposedly raccoon, and they both were really good, haha! At church yesterday and today in another building we found iguanas running around inside. Some kids yesterday grabbed one and killed it so they can eat it later. Everything is going great and I love the work. I am super excited for this weekend, hope everyone else back home is too! Don’t have much time today but I will end it there, have a great week!

Week #83 - Elder Martino Visit (Santiago)

Hello Familia y amigos!

Well this week was a pretty good week, and it’s just weird to think of how much time I have left, yesterday I completed 19 months! I really don’t like thinking about it! Well here I’m still trying to get used to my area. It’s a bit of a pain having to hike up a steep hill every day to get home, but I’ll live, haha! 

This week we have been trying to get some families ready for baptism, however we have to get them married and they are super poor, so that’s always a problem. This week was interesting in that we not only had a visit from Elder Martino, but we also had a stake conference that was held for all of Central America with Pres. Boyd K. Packer presiding. So to start I will start with Elder Martino, it was a great Multizona. He touched on some weak points that we have in the mission right now and he helped us to try and find ways to strengthen those areas. He was a great speaker and it was really awesome to listen to him. I took a lot of notes and hope to be able to improve my missionary skills. The only thing that was a bummer was that we got back to our area super late because it takes FOREVER to get here since it’s basically in the middle of nowhere.

We have been trying to work hard to get some new people, and this weekend we had the stake conference. On Saturday we didn’t have anyone show up and we basically wasted a day, but Sunday we had 13 investigators go, and the majority were brought by members! They all really enjoyed it and were pleased with what they heard. Sister Ann M Dibb talked about virtue, Elder Clark about finding the lost sheep, Elder Clayton about the promise in the Book of Mormon that “if ye keep my commandments, ye shall prosper in the land” and Pres. Packer talked about his youth and how we need to learn while we are in our youth. It was a great meeting and I really loved it. Don’t have much time today, but that was basically everything that happened this week. Hope everyone has a great week!

Week #82 - Goin' Golfin' (Santiago)

Hola familia y amigos!


Well all is well here, although I was pretty sad to leave my last area. I didn’t really have a lot of time there but I really enjoyed it. Tuesday night we went to tell Fam Alvarez and Lillian started crying, so we talked for a bit and when we left she gave me a huge hug. I wasn’t expecting it, but I didn’t want to tell her no since she wouldn’t understand and was so emotional. Darlyn gave me a big hug as well, it was pretty sad. I really want to visit them when I come back! Yeah so we found out this week that the area presidency says that we aren’t allowed to visit areas when we finish our mission, not until we get home and come back, so I think we should plan a trip to come back when they dedicate the temple in Tegus. It would be so much better that way. 


So my new area is Santiago, part of La Lima and it is a little pueblito in the middle of nowhere. There are banana plantations nearby, and my area is super hilly and super steep and there are a lot of stairs to climb. Supposedly there are some Mayan ruins around here, so we are going to hit those up later! Here it is a tiny branch that has very low church attendance, and the oldest people in the ward have a little over a year being in the church.  There are a lot of inactives, due to rumors and people being very judgmental in the church and a lot of people were baptized only so they could get food assistance. The church building is a house that they are renting, but hopefully we will have a building here in the near future, as soon as legal matters are taken care of (another church heard we wanted to buy land for a building and they are occupying the area for now, illegally) So it’s going to be a bit tough, and it’s going to take some getting used to this area because it’s the poorest one I have had in my mission and it is super steep.  Everywhere else has been super flat.

So my new companion is Elder Perez, he is from Guatemala City, Guatemala, and his family is very well to do. He studied for 4 years in England, 2 in Spain, has been to a ton of Real Madrid games. He’s also gone to Morroco, El Salvador, Argentina, Colombia, and the States, and he lives super close to the temple. It makes me laugh every time we talk about it because he is ridiculously loaded, but he is very humble about everything, and he’s really great.  I’m his third comp, and this is his third change, so things should go well here. This area of La Lima has the best milkshakes in all of Honduras, the international airport, and a golf course, and we went and played (rather unprofessionally) but it was fun, haha! I am hoping this change will bring a whole bunch of success for us. I hate thinking I only have 6 months left, it sure doesn’t feel like it! Well I hope everyone has a great week!

Week #81 - White Wedding and Bautismo Blanco (Puerto Cortes)

Hola familia y amigos!


Well this week was a hectic one! About my companion, I never really have been able to get a good teaching strategy with him. All this change I have felt like things never clicked when we taught and it has been hard trying to teach with him. We do plan what we want to teach, but then the lessons go somewhere else and he goes off with it. One of the things we found out today is that I have changes! I only have 3 months here and I didn’t want to leave, but I know that if I stayed, things would have been more difficult for me to keep working and to try and help my companion. It’s been an interesting change, I have tried to work hard but it’s just been difficult with someone that you don’t really click with.


Well this week was the wedding and baptism of Lillian and Darlyn and it was awesome! We went with them in the morning to get everything taken care of at the city hall and they were super happy. Later that night they had their wedding reception and she was super happy! She was in a dress that a member lent her and she was crying because she was so happy. Actually both of them were really happy and it was great to see that.

Saturday was their baptism and there was good support from the members. They both shared their testimonies about the church and that they are willing to learn and to keep growing and that they want to share this joy with everyone they know!

Yesterday there was a younger couple at church. The lady is a member who has been kind of active and she was there with her boyfriend. Lillian started talking to them about marriage and getting baptized and everything, it was awesome! It does stink that I will be leaving them, but I am super happy I was able to baptize them before I left. They are an awesome couple and they are so willing to learn more and to grow in the gospel, I am so happy for them, and in a year they can get sealed here in Tegus!

I am sad to leave this area, but if the Lord needs me somewhere else that is where I need to go. Who knows where it will be, but I gotta keep working right? haha I hope everyone has a great week and that all is well back home!
